A tale of two claws and a cocktail

“Lobstah” from Royal River Grill House in Yarmouth, Maine

So, one of the highlights EVERY time we go back to see Gay Lobster #1’s family (my hubby Sean) is the family date night adventure to the Royal River Grill House in Yarmouth, Maine. The restaurant has been around since 2002 (now 20 years!) and still going strong. It’s bustling / lively – but yet not too overwhelming – it has mass appeal to all ages – and constantly new additions to the menu to keep things fresh and moving forward – as evidenced by the “pain killah” that was fresh on the menu that evening!

New cocktail added July 21, 2022

Granted, I’m not a huge coconut kind of guy but it was tasty – my husband ordered it – so clearly, I took liberties to take a sip (or three). I can say without a doubt, this is one of those drinks though that you have ONE – not two (or more) – the dark rum will sneak up on you and put you asleep curbside while everyone else continues to their next adventure. Tasty – in moderation (like all good things in life).

The blueberry lemonade sangria

Personally, I wanted something a little lighter, so I opted for a vodka based drink called a blueberry lemonade sangria (pictured above). Really refreshing on a hot day (it was 91 degrees with a high level of humidity). It had a flavor of an Italian soda and I never once tasted the vodka, which is a great sign of a well balanced drink. Overall, I’d highly recommend this drink as a starter – as it would not overpower anything you were eating and a great refreshing way to start the evening.

Lobster options at Royal Rivers Grill House

So, onward to dinner! I was hopeful they’d have a lobster roll on the menu for the evening – as that is the point of this blog – but alas, I was wrong.

They currently only had two items containing lobster (pictured). Because I’m not a huge bivalve fan, I decided to pass on the pasta and instead select “Mr. Ed” (yes, I named the poor fella) for my lobster delight!

It came with the old school lobster big, cracking utensil, small pick instrument, a shell bowl, extra napkins, clarified butter, and two sides —- I picked the amazingly delicious mashed potatoes and the garlic green beans – because, why not? I must be predictable, as my sister-in-law “called” my order before I even confirmed it – oh well – I like what I like lol.

Overall, if you’re in the north Portland, Maine area and wanting a solid choice for lunch or dinner – make sure to stop by the Royal River Grill House – recommended as one of our family favorites.
