Three-hour guided scooter tour through Montreal, Quebec, Canada
“Lobster” tan

The old adage states that you truly are what you eat. Well, I guess I discovered that to be true this past weekend when we took the family off to Montreal for a long weekend getaway. With the Poulin side of the family conversational in Quebecois French, off we went! One of the first activities that we did upon arriving was a wonderful three-hour guided scooter tour of the city. This is where the old adage comes into play. My melanin-challenged self forgot to apply sunscreen! Well, just like lobster, I didn’t start off bright red, but by the time I was fully cooked, I was FIRE ENGINE red (see photo).

I’d HIGHLY recommend the scooter tour if you find yourself in Montreal. More details on the tour can be found by visiting the “GetYourGuide” app.

Okay, okay, now onto the theme of the blog – ACTUAL lobster! on Saturday evening, the full family decided to venture out for a nice family dinner. My husbear and his sister came to consensus on Liverpool House in the Little Burgundy neighborhood of Montreal. For those of you who know Montreal well, you’d likely know the same restauranter by a few of their other properties such as Joe Beef, or Le Vin Papillon, or McKiernan.

It was an extremely warm day, so anything with AC was a premium. When we arrived, we had an interesting interaction with the host, not the nicest of personalities running the front face of the restaurant. We were told that the only location for a party of six was on the back patio. Thankfully the back patio was well appointed with a french country inspired garden scene with a covered awning to make the 90+ heat in high humidity a little more bearable.

We promptly ordered a round of drinks while we were making menu decisions. The cocktails were QUITE good. I would have to say that the overall experience was made by our lead server – she was absolutely fantastic – playful, well-informed about the menu and also about the fairly large wine selection (predominantly French wines). She absolutely made the experience and truly helped overcome a few less than desirable elements (such as the rude host, horribly hot patio conditions, and a few other things I’ll call out with the food, etc.)

Our server is originally from a French-speaking household and hit it off immediately with my mother-in-law, husbear, and sister-in-law. She helped us make some thoughtful recommendations based on food preferences and even made a perfectly paired bottle of wine selection for our entrees.

Lobster spaghetti – Market Price – Liverpool House – Montreal, Quebec

Overall, everyone loved their food – except – me. I absolutely loved the started of terrine de foie gras with sour cherries – but my entree of lobster spaghetti was basically rubbery chunks of lobster over super al dente noodles – a total fail, all for the lovely “market price” quoted listing on the menu. If you go here, AVOID this dish – and really opt for the seafood specials of the day if it’s warm – as the tuna and trout (see photos below) were wonderfully prepared.
