James Hook & Co. Established 1925

Monday, July 11, 2022 (Boston, MA) – Today starts the summer journey on the crustacean station summer journey! One of the “L’Homo Homards’ had to work during the morning, so off I went in search of the best lobstah roll that Bahstan has to offer.
I tipped the concierge at our hotel for the best spot (in her opinion) in the city —- Soooo, off I went on my freedom trail morning walk with the intention of grabbing two rolls for lunch for me and the hubs! Using the freedom trail to guide me the majority of the way to my destination was a great way to see historic Boston without the annoyance of being on an official tour.
The destination – JAMES HOOK LOBSTER, CO – founded in 1925. Overall, the lobster shack is located next to the water, offers a nice outside dining area with shaded umbrellas, picnic tables, and a food truck (in the event you just want to stay outdoors for increased COVID safety reasons). I put on my mask and ventured inside. The shack offered live lobster tanks, a deli type of counter with a variety of products, a freezer area for frozen product to schlep home, and a variety of touristy items to purchase to remember large larry that you consumed over a pound of butter outside on the picnic table.
The service was friendly and they made the rolls fairly quick. I went at 11:30am on a Monday, so the line was tiny – comparative to what the concierge warned me about on other days around lunch. I grabbed the rolls and appreciated the fact that they came in a waxy type of bag (in case I had ordered the buttery version that would have left huge grease spots everywhere).
The roll had a TON of claw and tail meat, no fillers, and it was not smothered in mayo! The bread though had no redeeming value though – it was a french roll and did the job of holding all of the meat together – but had zero taste – at that point, I would have rather just had the meat in a small bowl and called it a day. Overall though, the amount of meat, the quality of the meat, and the very friendly/quick service gives James Hook Lobster, Co a five out of five claws and sets the bar pretty high for the rest of the summer! To be continued!

I feel you need to go back and try the butter version…in the name of research.
